For Julio Lopez, dance has never been merely a hobby—it has been his lifelong calling. He began dancing at just 10 years old and entered the professional dance world by age 13. Since then, his talent, discipline, and passion have carried him from local stages to some of the most celebrated venues and salsa events around the world.

Throughout the Hampton Roads area, Julio is widely recognized as a talented DJ—but he is far more than the person behind the music. He is an accomplished professional dancer, performer, instructor, and choreographer whose career reflects decades of dedication to Latin music and dance.

Julio's performance journey has taken him to New York City's Fifth Avenue Puerto Rican Day Parade, Carnegie Hall, Mohegan Sun, the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, and twice to Madison Square Garden. His major appearances include a tribute to salsa legends Héctor Lavoe and Ray Barretto, Gilberto Santa Rosa at Carnegie Hall, Salsa de los 90's at Mohegan Sun, and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico's 40th-anniversary celebration at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. He also performed as a Copacabana dancer.

Throughout his career, Julio has danced and performed alongside some of Latin music's most respected artists, including El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Oscar D'León, Jerry Rivera, Raulín Rosendo, Tito Nieves, Eddie Santiago, La India, Miosotis, José Alberto "El Canario," Ismael Miranda, Tony Vega, Tito Rojas, Michael Stuart, Ocho y Más, and La Excelencia.

His artistry has reached audiences across the United States and internationally. Julio has performed at the New York International Salsa Congress and salsa events in Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle, Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas, Boston, and Puerto Rico, as well as in Bern, Switzerland; Malaysia; the Dominican Republic; and Venezuela.

His talent has also extended beyond the dance floor. Julio appeared in the films Empire and Woo and participated in competitions and showcases presented by Sábado Gigante, Orchard Beach, and Stamford, Connecticut.

Today, Julio brings that lifetime of professional experience to En Clave Dance Studio. He believes every student who invests time and money into learning deserves nothing less than serious instruction, honest feedback, and measurable growth. On the dance floor, he is not there simply to be anyone's friend—he is there to teach, challenge, and bring out the dancer within each student.

Julio tests every student because he sees potential beyond their current abilities. He pushes them outside their comfort zones, strengthens their foundations, and refuses to let them settle for less than what they are capable of achieving. His teaching style is demanding because his commitment to his students is genuine.

He guarantees real progress—but that progress depends on what each student is willing to put into the journey.
